Thanks for the review. I was considering getting a Shuffle, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll get both the Mini and Shuffle :D I need a flash drive, too, so that probably makes sense.

No. I still like the expos and multitouch fluidity of Snow Leopard, and that keeps me from using Lion as my main os.

Or why not an MBA? It should be able to handle Aperture fine, not sure about Final Cut - might want to ask on the MBA forum.
I thought about the Air, especially considering I'll be buying an SSD to replace the HDD in the MBP, however the 4GB of RAM and the older Core 2 Duo processors kinda scared me away. Now if the MBA has a refresh before we get back in July I'll definitely look into it...
As was your +1 for the $1199 13" or $1499 13"

LCDs looks horrible when not ran at their native resolution. You will definitely want to run it at 2560x1600. If the text is too small, sit closer or make the fonts bigger.
I am going to be picking up my new 27" iMac at the store tomorrow. For the past 4 years I have been using a 24" Dell at 1920x1200. Since the 27" iMac is 2560x1140, do most people run it at native or something lower?
I am looking forward to the increased screen size so I can have more rows/columns viewable, but not sure I want them any smaller.
I sit about 24-30" away from the screen.
How would the 27" look at something lower?
SHEESH!

And, to answer the OP:
- Running games at 2560x1440, with lower textures, I find, is better than running it at 1080p, with higher texture.
- When browsing the web, documents, etc. keep it at native resolution, otherwise it looks like rubbish.

Unfortunately it isn't since they aren't using the same chipset.
You could, however, upgrade the 8-core base model to a 12-core or upgrade the quad core base model to a single 6-core.
Would I need to get another mother board with that?
And Second, this might seem like an odd question (forgive me, im really not too knowledgable on this subject) but would I be able to keep the actual Quad Core processor and add that additional 6 core processor?
thanks.

You can take screenshots! But yeah, this seems like a hardware problem - especially since it appears to happen with both coax and RCA inputs.

I had a Cube with a 15" Apple Studio LCD. You must upgrade to OS 9.2 if haven't yet. In the Energy Saver Control Panel there is now an option for disabling the button on the Cube. I forget what it's called exactly but you'll see it. You'll then have to turn the machine on and off with the monitor. This should work fine. They actually added this feature because of the problem between the Cube and the LCDs. Sorry if that's not the fix you need.

The best plan is to use iTunes to rip the CDs. First go to preferences and set the defalt files type to "Apple lossless". Then you feed in the CDs one at a time and they go straight into iTunes get tagged and it's simple. Some times tagging fails if youhave a rare CD that is not in the database then thr must type in the info.
All good, thanks.
To get files you've already ripping into iTunes just do File->Import Folder and iTunes will copy the tracks in the that folder. If thse tracks are tagged it will copy the tags if untagged you willhave to type in the data. It may be easier to re-rip them frominside iTunes than type in all that data
iTunes will presumably read the folders that have WAV files in them, but what about the FLAC files?

I was in a similar, ish, situation. Other half has Pokemon Black, but our DS Lites don't like our WiFi (how dare we use WPA...), so we decided to upgrade one unit to something more modern.
Initially we bought a 3DS, but sent it back within a few days. The handling of DS games on the upper screen isn't that good to be honest (scaling issues), and we felt the 3D was a waste of time and money. Instead we picked up a new DSi for 95 (love airports), and it's great - less than half the cost, far superior battery life, and also supports WPA and the DSi store.
Something sounds wrong there. I get 4 or 5 hours battery life on my DSi (bought earlier this year so it's not old), my 3DS gets 7 hours battery life on DS games.

I doubt that the iPad 2 will ship with 4.2.1 Just because the GM was released to developers today doesn't mean that apple hasn't been sitting on it for a week or two.
We can hope though.....

hi,
I'm having trouble with vertical distance in GoLive.
eg: my home page.
I want to have a certain distance between various headings and sections of www.eclispenow.org but really can't seem to get the "box" tool working properly. Any ideas for guaranteeing vertical distance... without getting into html? (Html scares me at this stage.)
I looked at your code and almost crapped my pants! Some scary case of DIVitis (among other things) going on in there. :p
I don't think anyone can help you until your code is cleaned up. :o

If the photos are on the SSD drive, then yes they will launch faster than if on the HDD. Now that said, if they are just average say 2MB JPG photos the difference will not be huge. If it is a very hi-res photo say 10MB JPG the difference will be more noticeable.
Makes sense . . thanks
edit: just read this article which explains it quite well

I bought this via slickgate (http://www.slickgate.com/gevey-turbo-sim-unlock-for-iphone-4-ios-41-42-43_p990.html) for $10 and it worked perfectly on my ip4 with baseband 03.10.
Just pop in the sim w/gevey and then wait for it to load up, it gives you the instructions on the screen, hit accept, dail 112 wait till the screen changes and then count to 3 after that hang up and turn on airplane mode and wait till it says no SIM (pop up) and then turn off airplane mode, you get a few more pop ups and then bham its unlocked until you restart

Didn't the last rumor say this was supposed to happen this week? It's a nice-to-have feature, but anyone who has been holding off on an upgrade simply because the white phone wasn't available is vain or foolish.

a G3 iBook would be best, IMO.
The airport cards can be hard to find, and be sure to max out the ram.
I had one, then it got passed to my bro, and it's still chugging along. Just watch out for logic board probs. :)

I'm pretty good programming in PHP and Javascript, but now I need something that allows me to create simple desktop apps. Mostly it will be for automation scripts, too much for Apple Script, but not complex enough to jump into Cocoa and Objective-C. Examples: Manipulating text files (sorting, dupe line checking, adding/cutting parts, splitting/combining files etc.), uploading a file to several different FTP servers, sending POST requests to a server.
I often hear Pearl and Python mentioned and I believe they are pre-installed on the Mac, but I don't know much about them. What's the main difference? Which one (or something else?) would be best suited for these tasks? Which one is easier to learn?
Bonus: What's a good site to learn for someone who has general programming knowledge, but is a total noob with those languages?
