You waited this long? Then i'd suggest you wait a bit more. The next iPhone will have a Dual Core processor and that itself makes it much faster than the iPhone 4.
At least wait until WWDC in June and then make your decision. But there's no harm in waiting. Unless you need it.

Yes, I'm going to make a moral judgement - if you've just bought a $1200+ computer surely you can afford the $60 to get the three iWork apps from the App Store. If it's tapped out your bank account, wait a few weeks and save up for it.

    You're pirating software. Don't.

Personally i think that they both should just play nice.

I mean why doesn't Apple just do what they did with the Apple TV. Throw the Apple Logo in front of it. Then Linksys should do the same.

    Digg this:

Cisco lost rights to iPhone trademark last year, experts say. (

Cisco claims Apple created phony company to sidestep iPhone trademark. (

Usually Christmas, but I think I'm a little more excited about Macworld this year, since I'm likely getting a new MBP the same day :)

I can't read japanese, the but the translation seems to make sense..

basically new Superdrive/Bluetooth Powerbooks coming... no change in the case. The same as what has previously been reported... so no real new info.

They don't have a known track record... we'll see in the coming weeks I suppose.

i'm using the font explorer from linotype.

there's a free version, too. which was quite sufficent for me at home. at the studio i'm using the pro version.

and in combination with indesign, it activates and deactivates the fonts you're using in each file automatically.

    generally it's quite useful.

I've had my iBook for about 2 months now and i love it. i absolutely love it. my PC has never been so neglected :)

I have only one small problem with it and thats the keyboard layout. And its not what you think, its got nothing to do with the cmd, alt or ctrl keys, i've gotten so used to them, that i sometimes press Alt V on my windows machine instead of Ctrl V. :)

My gripe lies with the implementation of the British Keyboard layout. (yes we use our own different layout :) )

Basically this keyboard is layed out like a std US keyboard with the on top of the 3. To my british trained fingers lots of keys are in the wrong place, for instance

@ is on top of the 2, rather than on top of '
" is on top of ' instead of on top of 2
Euro is alt2 instead of alt4
    # is alt 3 instead of being on the mid right hand side of the keyboard.

Its not a big deal (except that when i needed to use keycaps the first time i wanted to use #, and i miss having off the main keyboard) as my fingers are now used to this keyboard and automatically remember the correct layout when i use another computer. I still love my iBook, and the only way you get it away from me is to pry it from my cold dead fingers, or to replace it with a G5 PowerBook :)

    Just my 2p

Congrats on the well-deserved vacation, I hope you enjoy it.

I was working those kind of hours for a couple of months toward the end of last year. Aggressive software deadlines. I count myself fortunate that I get paid for the overtime. It's much easier to accept working at 8pm on a Sunday night when I know I can charge time and a half for the entire weekend!

Things have settled a bit but I'm finding a comfortable pace of working mostly regular hours during the week, plus coming in on Sunday afternoons for a few OT hours.

Doubt it. I have the 2.0 ghz and it works great. If you do a lot of video encoding you'll see a speed up, but for me I'd have to be doing video all day for me to want to upgrade. I'm going to wait for a machine that has light peak/usb 3 and and i7 or better ... so I'll be hanging on to this machine for quite some time to come. The .66 increase in speed is just not something I'd see with how my machine gets used. If you do lots and lots of video, upgrade ... if not save your money.

I removed my Samsung 470 SSD from an HP laptop that had Win 7 running. Trim was enabled automatically with Win 7. When I put it into my new Macbook Pro trim was not enabled. You can check by going into the Apple, then About, then More Info and finally into Serial ATA. When you scroll down you will see that trim is not enabled.( Without it, the SSD will fill up and slow down. Google it and see what it does). had a Trim Enabler patch that worked perfectly. I downloaded it and clicked on it and it installed. When I went back into the Apple, etc I found that trim had been enabled. Kudos to Oskar. I dropped a couple of bucks on him from Paypal because I appreciate this kind of work. Maybe Apple will have trim enabled in the next OS, like Win7.

trim is only supported on SSD's that you buy from apple, and only recently.

As the other poster said, there haven't been problems with people running 3rd party SSD's w/o trim enabled. In fact some users have reported problems with their drives after enabling trim support.

If you really feel you must have it, search the boards, there is a tutorial here on how to enable it through some simple command lines.

AE, Premiere, and Maya are my main applications. All of which still have the ability to render faster even with my 12-core machine. When it comes to video and 3D rendering, render times can always be faster.

Are you saying MacRumors is a small community ;)

maybe I could rephrase that... spymac has a lot of members that post a LOT of one-word posts. it's annoying. at least on macrumors users generally have something worth saying and don't post for the sheer point of making a post.

I bought this MBP; its currently on its way via UPS. I just want to let everyone know we had a very quick, smooth transaction and I'd definitely do business with this seller again. I'll update this thread when the MBP arrives (UPS says tomorrow)

I would have thought that Apple still cared about making computers.

    Guess we were both wrong.

ever since ipod hit the market they have been more concerned with that market. most of their revenue (correct me if i'm wrong) comes from ipod sales.

I'm not going to place my order quite yet though - try and talk me out of it! Haha.

You might want to consider this (

Read and write speed is awesomely fast. But there is a hitch: the speed out of the box is a fairy tale that does not hold up with sustained use, although the ongoing speed is still superb.

The speed is actually understated when the drive is first used; fresh out of the box, the Crucial 256GB achieves a blistering-fast 215MB/sec write speed, and 267MB/sec read speed on the DiskTester fill-volume test. Those are fantastic numbers! (The fastest laptop hard drives might sustain 98MB/sec on the fastest part of the drive).

On the second and subsequent fill-volume tests, write speed declines by 17% over the initial results, settling down to a still superb 187MB/sec, about 6% below the rated speed. Furthermore, it develops a periodic stutter, which can be seen in the blue line in the graph. Read speeds drop only a smidgen, remaining above 260MB/sec.
